Triangles have an ancient history. Think of Mason and Druid marks. They use triangles to convey power, mystery and masculinity.
Triangles tend to be perceived as masculine shapes, despite being a traditional Pagan symbol for woman (when upside down!). They often used to convey stability when sitting on their base or dynamic when angled.
Based on which way they point, triangles can direct movement. Google's Play logo is a good example of a stripped back futuristic approach that modernizes the triangle, in contrast to Dresdner Bank or Commerzbank (examples below) where triangles to convey stability and conservatism.
