It's no secret that the Philippines is a gold mine for design talent.
- Two designers in DesignCrowd's Top 10 designers are from the Philippines:
- Art Samurai is ranked #2
- Art Tank is #8
- Philippine designer volume has doubled in past 6 months
- Philippine designers are winning more contests.
In May we launched the inaugral Philippine Logo Design Awards 2013 to uncover the best graphic designers in the Philippines. Who were we looking for?
"Is your portfolio chock full of awesome logo designs?! Are you looking to gain national and global exposure for your supreme design skills? This contest is you! We're on the hunt to find the best logo designer in the Philippines."
The winner of the $750 / PHO 32,000 first place prize is Christerbert de Silva aka Mr.Christa, freelance graphic designer from Los Baños. He wrote in his submission:
"The logo is my personal logo. I made because this one represent me and not another entity. In joining this contest I would not only want to show what I can do but who I am.
Since people cannot pronounce my name properly - they call me Kristen, Chester, Christopher and names far from my own - I decided to use the word 'Mister' to help them. I want to be called Mister Christer."
What the judges said:
The design is minimalist, timeless, elegant and memorable. The simplicity of the design makes adaptable and it willtranslate well on different mediums. Mr.Christo has created a distinctive brand identity that achieves his purpose: to communicate his essence as a designer. The visual identity will be relevant 10 years from now.
