At DesignCrowd, we like to imagine the world going topsy-turvy sometimes. A world without people, disappearing landmarks, no more trees... it's all about finding a new angle and looking at what we see every day in a totally new way. The bread and butter of any skilled designer, in other words. No wonder these design contests always get incredible responses.
This time we wondered what would happen if we keep the people, keep the trees, and keep the landmarks – but shuffle them around a little bit. Suddenly the Statue of Liberty is in Rio de Janeiro, the Sydney Opera House in London, and Mount Rushmore in Jordan. Some of these images are integrated so well we can almost imagine they're real. But don't take our word for it – have a look for yourself!
Congratulations to the winner!
Rijan Hamidovic managed to integrate the Kremlin so well into Egypt they almost got us fooled there. They didn't only extertly insert the building into the desert landscape, but took care to adjust the colors of the original image so it integrates perfectly with the new addition. Well done.
Runner-up
The Sydney Opera House may be one of the city's most iconic features, but we're willing to bet many Sydney-siders would take the 2000-year-old Colosseum over it any day. Both are for performances, both are unusually designed... surely the difference is mostly cosmetic? We think the ancient Roman structure sits quite nicely in Circular Quay.
Third place
Replacing the statue of Christ the Redeemer with New York City's Statue of Liberty is a brilliant choice from a design perspective, as their dimensions (at least in the picture) are quite similar, creating a very plausible image. We won't get into all the possible metaphors to be read out of this switch though.
