Three years ago, on August 25 2012, one of the world's greatest heroes passed away. Neil Armstrong was most famous for being the first man to walk on the moon in 1969, but few people know that three years earlier he became the first American civilian in space, and performed the first-ever successful docking of two spacecraft.
Having successfully completed 3 of the world's firsts by age 40, Armstrong went on to be a professor and scout leader, was honored with numerous medals, honorary doctorates and awards, and lived a relatively uneventful life (unless people stole his hair, that is).
At DesignCrowd, we love people with vision and drive, and any space related endeavors capture our hearts and minds. Space, and particularly the moon, are incredibly popular choices for all kinds of designs – after all, they have inspired human imagination for centuries, and evoke feelings of yearning, romance, and adventure.

Our designers have had a whole bunch of opportunities through the years to create logos inspired by space themes, rockets and celestial bodies. Here we have collated 10 of our favorites, along with ten interesting facts you may not have known about the first man on the moon.
10 Space-Themed Logos
1. Flight caught his imagination from an early age; he received his student pilot's license at only 16 years old.
2. He was not only a hero of science – he flew around 80 combat missions for the US Navy during the Korean War.
3. He held a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering, along with several honorary doctorates.
4. He has two sons, Eric and Mark, and a daughter Karen, who died of a brain tumor at only 3 years old.
5. He only completed two space flights in his career, breaking 3 world's firsts in the process.
6. He voiced the character of Dr. Jack Morrow in Quantum Quest, an animated sci-fi film also starring Mark Hamill, Samuel A. Jackson, and William Shatner
7. In the early 80's, a hoax surfaced in parts of Asia and the Middle East, claiming Armstrong has converted to Islam after hearing the Muslim call to prayer while walking on the moon's surface.
8. Later in life, he refused all requests for autographs after he learned of the amount of money they sold for and the many forgeries on the market.
9. When his barber stole some of his hair and sold it for $3000 to a collector, Armstrong made him donate the proceeds to charity.
10. The US Navy named an oceanographic research ship, the RV Neil Armstrong, in his honor.
Facts were compiled from NASA, Yes I know that, The Houston Press, Answering Islam, IMDb and America's Navy.
